The next Ottawa Better Building Breakfast will feature;
Keynote Speaker: Michael Brooks, Chief Executive Office, Real Property Association of Canada (REALpac)
There is no one better qualified than Micheal Brooks to talk about the leaders in the Canadian sustainable building sector. Who they are? What strategies they are using and how they intend to catch-up with their peers in the rest of the World.
Michael will share his vision of the future for a sustainable building sector in Canada. He will provide the perspective of the property investor, building owner, occupant, manager, government policy makers as well as the moral considerations associated with the challenge of greening the built environment.
It is Michaels unique position as a Canadian representative to a variety of National and International organizations mandated to address sustainable buildings that provides him unusual authority to speak about this topic.
One of Michael’s key roles as Executive Director of REALpac is being proactive with the real estate community in Canada and internationally, and ensuring REALpac is seen as a thought leader on policy and government relations issues locally, nationally and internationally.
Michael is a Board Member and former Treasurer of the Canada Green Building Council and is a LEED AP. He now serves on the Council’s Governance Committee.
Michael is the Canadian delegate (with Oxford Properties Group Inc.) to the newly formed international commercial real estate sector study of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and is the representative for REALpac with the United Nations Environment Programme, Sustainable Buildings & Climate Initiative (UNEP SBCI).
Michael has served as the REALpac representative to REESA (the global association of real estate associations) where he has provided leadership on sustainability issues.
Michael is an Adjunct Professor at the Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University, Toronto, where he teaches real estate finance, development, corporate social responsibility and sustainability. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, American Bar Association, Law Society of Upper Canada, International Council of Shopping Centres, and the Urban Land Institute.
Michael is also a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and has practiced real estate law in Canada for over 25 years.
