Board comings, goings at Killam, CDPQ, Altus...

Bob Kay, the chair of Killam Apartment REIT’s (KMP-UN-T) board of trustees for over a decade, will retire after the company’s May 8 annual general meeting.

"I would like to thank Mr. Kay for his 22 years of service and leadership on Killam's board as a director, and since May 2013 as the chair of the board,” Killam CEO and president Philip Fraser said in the announcement.

“The first two properties purchased by Killam, which were built and owned by Mr. Kay, became the basis of the qualifying transaction to start Killam, and on closing, Mr. Kay joined the board.”

James Lawley is to become the new board chair following his re-election at the AGM. Lawley is a long-serving board member with over 40 years of experience in the multiresidential real estate sector in land acquisitions, permitting, financing and overseeing the design and construction of many multiresidential projects.

"Over the last three to four years, Killam has been in the process of board renewal where original board members have been retiring, and new, diverse board members have been joining Killam,” Fraser said in the announcement.

“Mr. Lawley, at the pinnacle of his illustrious real estate career and with his extensive institutional knowledge of Killam, will continue to lead board succession and renewal, positioning Killam's board for ongoing success.”

CDPQ adds new board members

CDPQ has announced the appointments of Rana Ghorayeb and Martine Rivard to the board of directors of its subsidiary CDPQ Infra. This follows on the appointment of Emmanuel Jaclot as chair of the CDPQ Infra board in July.

As executive vice-president and head of infrastructure at CDPQ since 2018, Jaclot manages a $60-billion portfolio. With nearly 20 years of experience in large-scale infrastructure transactions, he previously held the positions of senior vice-president at Schneider Electric in London and deputy managing director of EDF Energies Nouvelles in Paris.

Ghorayeb was recently appointed executive V-P and head of real estate at CDPQ. Previously, she was president and CEO of Otéra Capital since 2019. In 2012, she joined CDPQ as executive V-P on the infrastructure team.

Prior to that, she worked at JP Morgan Asset Management in London, responsible for real estate investments in several European countries. As a senior partner, she also managed real estate transactions for the New York-based TIAA fund.

Rivard has led human resources and employee experience departments at several major companies, including VIA Rail Canada, CSL Group and Air Liquide Canada.

She sits on the Agropur board of directors and human capital, technology and governance committees. 

She has a bachelor of industrial relations from Université de Montréal.

Jenkins new CFO at Avison Young

Rick Jenkins has been named chief financial officer at Avison Young, overseeing the firm’s financial operations and strategy.

Jenkins joined the firm in 2016 as global controller.

He will now lead the overall management and strategies in the areas of finance, accounting, budgeting and reporting, bank relations, risk management, joint ventures and tax. He will also be responsible for the financial aspects of acquisitions, divestitures and related transactions.

Jenkins brings more than 20 years of diverse accounting, finance and consulting experience, including with another large global commercial real estate firm.

His background also encompasses nine years at a U.S. Big-4 CPA firm in consulting and audit roles, and five years as a controller at a global sports, modelling and media conglomerate.

Warsop nominated to Altus Group board 

Altus Group (AIF-T) has nominated Thomas Warsop, president and CEO of ACI Worldwide Inc., for election to its board of directors at its May 1 AGM.

Warsop recently transitioned from chair to the president and CEO role at ACI, leading the transformation for one of the world’s largest payment solution providers. A long-time technology sector executive, he has over 30 years of working around the world. 

Throughout his career he has led portfolio companies for several leading private equity firms, including One Call Care Management, York Risk Services Group and The Warranty Group. Prior to that, he was group president at Fiserv, Inc., and vice-president of global financial services at Electronic Data Systems Corp.

Warsop holds a BBA in finance from Southern Methodist University.

Raphael promoted at JLL

JLL has promoted Michael Raphael to chief procurement officer to lead its procurement activities globally.

Raphael has amassed sourcing experience around the world and been an instrumental part of JLL since 2011. He previously served as JLL's global head of sourcing solutions development and operations. 

Currently based in Chicago, he spent 17 years in Asia in a variety of roles, including chief procurement officer in the Asia-Pacific region, where he led a team of 226 procurement professionals in 14 countries.

He also managed the vendor service centre in Manila, Philippines, that supported JLL globally in areas such as contract management, supplier performance management, electronic RFP creation and procurement reporting.

Sotheby’s names new Ontario brokerage director

Sotheby’s International Realty Canada has named Angela Papassotiriou its director of brokerage services for Ontario.

With more than 30 years in the real estate industry, Papassotiriou brings a wide range of skills to her new position, including sales, marketing and brokerage management. 

She was most recently broker of record at eXp Realty. Previously, she was broker at Re/Max Excel Realty, and held positions at Royal LePage Real Estate and Re/Max Condos Plus Corp.

Olynick moves to Colliers as V-P 

Colliers has announced the addition of Jonathan Olynick as vice-president, sales representative in Toronto. He will focus on office sales and leasing with the Toronto downtown brokerage team.

Over the last 20 years, Olynick has held progressively senior roles in asset management and leasing at Manulife Investment Management and Brookfield Properties, where his expertise focused on the landlord and asset management side of the market.

OREA installs 2024 board of directors

The Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) has announced Oakville-based real estate broker Rick Kedzior has assumed the role of president.

Belleville-based real estate salesperson Cathy Polan is the 2024 president-elect and provincial director for Northeastern Ontario.

The 2024 OREA board of directors includes the following new members: Randy Pawlowski and Ryan Humble as directors at large; Dustin Davis, director for southern Ontario; and Meredith Kennedy, director for central Ontario

The following board members return or continue the second year of their two-year terms: Tania Artenosi, past-president; Paul Etherington and Lisa Patel as directors at large; Andrew McAllister, director for central Ontario; Dwight Delahunt, director for eastern Ontario; Donna Mathewson, director for western Ontario; and Kimberly Fairley, director for northern Ontario.
