Rick Charlton has been appointed senior vice-president for Western Canada at Colliers Real Estate Management Services (CIGI-T), bringing him back to the company where he launched his career over 30 years ago. 

In Charlton’s new role, he has oversight for B.C., Alberta and Manitoba at Colliers. 

“If you look closely at his record, you not only see the breadth of Rick’s accomplishments, but a diverse skill set used to achieve it. Rick’s experience will improve our service delivery and drive growth across the western region,” John Duda, president of Colliers REMS, said in a released statement. 

Charlton was previously at Adventus Capital Partners for six years, most recently in the dual roles of acting president and CEO. 

It was Colliers, however, that provided the original springboard for Charlton’s career, hiring him in 1992 as an agent in the Calgary office of Colliers International.

From there, Charlton progressed to positions at CREIT Management L.P., TrizecHahn Office Properties, Bentall Real Estate Services, Aspen Properties, Sun Life Financial, GWL Realty Advisors (from 2005 to 2007 and then again from 2013 to 2017) and WAM Development Group.

Hoeberichts becomes MD, capital raising at BGO

Candida Hoeberichts has accepted a position as managing director, capital raising, in the investments division at BGO. Hoeberichts will be based in BGO’s San Francisco office.

She moved to BGO after more than 10 years at AEW Capital Management, where her most recent title was director of investor relations.

Her extensive career has featured previous postings at Metropolitan Real Estate Equity Management, Cushman and Wakefield, Deutsche Bank Asset and Wealth Management, KPMG and Merrill Lynch. 

Tyndall joins Cadillac Fairview board

Beth Tyndall has joined the board of directors at Cadillac Fairview. Tyndall is the chief people officer at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.

Before joining Ontario Teachers’ in 2017, she spent eight years at Deloitte Canada, where her most recent title was partner/national talent lead for consulting and audit practices. Her other previous roles have included jobs at Navantis, Algorithmics, Ehvert Engineering and Interac Japan. 

CBRE names Karam managing director, Quebec

Louis Karam is the new managing director for Quebec at CBRE Canada (CBRE-N).

He was previously senior vice-president and managing director of the company’s Ottawa operations. Karam’s new Quebec-based post is a homecoming of sorts, since he spent a decade at CBRE in Montreal before moving to the Ottawa office in 2021. 

Karam was born in Lebanon and moved to Montreal at age 11. Although he has an electrical engineering degree, Karam was introduced to the real estate field right after university, when his first project management job involved the construction of a data centre.

He landed his first real estate job in 2011, when CBRE Canada hired him as a Montreal-based project manager in its Global Workplace Solutions division. 

Huang to manage CRE at RESAAS

James Huang has joined RESAAS Services Inc. (RSS-X) as managing director of commercial real estate. 

Huang moved to RESAAS following four years as president of eXp World Holdings. He began his career as a vice president at Morgan Stanley Investment Management in Los Angeles and went on to subsequent positions at Secured California Investments, Marcus & Millichap, and Sperry Commercial Global Affiliates. 

Huang served as national president of the Asian Real Estate Association of America from 2019 to June 2024 and was a national board member of the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association from 2020 to 2021. 

Brunner, Chornohos take posts at Avison Young

Avison Young has welcomed Liam Brunner and Chris Chornohos to its Calgary operations. 

Brunner has been hired as principal, senior director and western Canadian leader for valuation and advisory services.

His 26-year career has included previous roles at Colliers International, Cushman and Wakefield, and Deloitte and Touche. He was most recently senior managing director and market leader for Canada at Newmark Canada.

Prior to this new appointment, he founded and ran Soveren Developments Ltd. He started his career at Colliers International Canada before taking subsequent roles with Advent Commercial Real Estate Group, Jones Lang LaSalle, CHANDOS Construction and Newmark. 

Khalighi moves to Newmark Canada

Yashar Khalighi has taken on the role of senior managing director of the Vancouver offices at Newmark Canada (NMRK-Q).

He accepted the position after nearly six years at CBRE, where his most recent title was vice-president.

His other experience includes work at Macdonald Commercial Real Estate Services, Pacifica Steel, AMEC, the City of Vancouver, and Archway Construction. Khalighi was named one of Vancouver’s top sales brokers of 2023 by CoStar.

Harrison promoted at EXIT Realty

Susan Harrison has been appointed chief information officer at EXIT Realty Corp

The role is the culmination of Harrison’s long career at EXIT since joining the company in 2000. Her previous title there was senior vice-president.

Harrison’s new responsibilities will involve assessing and fulfilling the firm’s technology requirements, in-house technology development, and working with technology providers to deliver best-in-class solutions for the company, its clients and partners. Harrison will continue to oversee the firm’s Spirit of EXIT Charitable Program. 

New president, VP at QPAREB

Members of the Quebec Professional Association of Real Estate Brokers (QPAREB) have elected two new leaders to its board of directors. 

Serge Brousseau was elected president of the board. A veteran of the industry since 1986, he’s the founding owner of the RE/MAX du Cartier agency, which has six branches and more than 350 brokers. 

Marie-Claude Génie was elected vice-president of the board. A real estate broker for the past 14 years, she has served for three years on the board of directors at the Greater Montreal Real Estate Board.
