Trez Capital has appointed Eric Horie to its executive leadership team in his role as executive managing director, head of Canadian origination.
Since joining Trez Capital in 2017, Horie has led the national origination team responsible for sourcing and structuring commercial real estate lending opportunities in Canada.
With approximately two decades of lending, underwriting and transactional experience, he is also a prominent representative of the firm at major industry forums and conferences.
Prior to joining Trez, Horie was with BMO’s Commercial Banking Group, where he held a variety of positions including leading a team of diversified industry lenders. His real estate transactional experience includes high-leverage, construction, term, owner-user, syndications and joint offerings with mezzanine lenders.
Horie holds an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business.
Boyd promoted at Avison Young
Avison Young has promoted Andrew Boyd from principal and senior vice-president, to practice lead, Toronto office leasing.
“Andrew is a trusted advisor and proven leader with extensive knowledge of our business, bringing a special, innate ability to champion those around him. He will work closely with me to ensure strategic alignment and high performance,” said Joe Almeida, principal and managing director for Ontario, in the announcement.
Boyd brings three decades of experience into the new role. He will be responsible for identifying opportunities for growth, exploring new ways to drive revenue and supporting client and business development and retention, for both agency leasing and tenant representation. He will collaborate with and lead Toronto’s office leasing team.
Since joining Avison Young in 1994, his career has been steeped in office leasing and sales expertise throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
Faria, Coles join Build Canada Homes
The federal Build Canada Homes agency has filled two senior positions, naming Valesa Faria as senior vice-president, partnership and development and Jeffery Coles as senior vice-president, investments. Both will also serve on the executive leadership team.
Faria brings more than 20 years of experience across housing policy, development review, affordable housing delivery and public-sector transformation. She will lead Build Canada Homes’ development and partnership work, advancing projects with Indigenous partners, non-profit and private developers and government partners.
Coles will lead investment strategy and capital deployment, overseeing how capital is structured and put to work across projects. He brings nearly two decades of experience in real estate investments, finance and capital markets.
Cartwright named CFO at Spring Living
Owen Cartwright has joined Spring Living Retirement Communities as the firm’s chief financial officer.
He joins Spring Living after working as the managing partner, CFO and COO at Stormont Partners, a boutique Canadian merchant bank with a specialization in seniors housing advisory.
At Stormont, he led the origination and execution of all seniors housing initiatives, including corporate finance, M&A, brokerage and consulting. He also oversaw the strategic direction, finance and operating functions of a specialized lending platform created by the Stormont team.
Prior to joining Stormont in 2019, Cartwright served as strategic advisor to the CEO at Revera Living, having previously spent eight years as a partner in Brookfield Asset Management’s investment banking division, where he was a founding member of Brookfield’s global healthcare advisory platform.
During his career, Cartwright has advised on more than $15 billion of seniors housing transactions globally.
He graduated with a BA in accounting and finance from Dublin City University in 2001. He is a member of the Institutes of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and Ireland.
Timbercreek adds two new hires
Timbercreek Capital has named two new hires to its team, adding Matthew Burbridge as its vice-president, capital formation and real estate investments, and Jake Ward as associate director, business development.
Burbridge brings deep institutional real estate and capital formation experience across Canada and the U.S., including more than 10 years leading U.S. acquisitions and raising capital for strategies backed by major domestic and global institutional investors.
He will lead Timbercreek Capital’s U.S. fundraising initiatives and play a key role in advancing its growing direct real estate investment activities.
Ward joined the TC Alternatives distribution team and will partner with investment professionals across Canada to expand its presence in the wealth management and high‑net‑worth channels.
He brings client-facing and distribution experience from Sun Life Global Investments and Mackenzie Investments and holds a BA in economics and political science from the University of Western Ontario.
