Carolyn Cheng has announced she intends to retire from her position as chief operating officer of Royal LePage on Nov. 30.

Cheng posted her decision on social media this week. She has been in the role for over nine years after moving over from Brookfield Real Estate Services in 2016.

“Over the past 25 years, I’ve been incredibly lucky to work with the best executive team in our business – they make me proud of our work, embody the highest of values, and have become part of my extended family,” Cheng stated in her LinkedIn post. “Together, we have kept Royal LePage in a leadership position in our dynamic industry."

Prior to the COO's position, Cheng had a two-decade career in the industry which saw her start at Deloitte Consulting as a senior consultant and then move back and forth between Brookfield and Toronto-based Royal LePage as she rose up the corporate ranks.

She spent three years as director, business development at Brookfield Residential Property Services and then moved to Royal LePage for her first stay with that company. During this six-year period (2003 to 2009) she served as director of strategic business services and then vice-president of strategic business services.

During her second stint at Brookfield, which lasted for seven years, she served as senior vice-president, strategic business services.

Cheng holds a commerce degree from Queen's University and a master of international relations from The London School of Economics and Political Science.

"I want to focus on my photography, spend more time with family and friends and move to part-time board and consulting work," Cheng said in the LinkedIn post. "This will be a new beginning for me."

Her photography has been featured in several Ontario galleries, and via numerous publications including National Geographic's Photo of the Week series.
