Aliyah Mohamed has been named chief capital officer and a member of the management committee at KingSett Capital.

Mohamed joined KingSett from TD Securities where she spent more than 16 years in investment banking, most recently as managing director, real estate.

She will report to Anna Kennedy, KingSett’s chief operating officer. Mohamed will oversee equity capital investor relations, debt capital finance strategy, firm marketing and communications and talent development at KingSett.

“Aliyah is a highly accomplished and respected capital markets professional who brings expertise in finance, business development and a complementary perspective on real estate markets in Canada and internationally,” said Rob Kumer, KingSett’s president and chief investment officer, in the announcement.

Thomas becomes chair of Chartwell board

Huw Thomas is the new chair of Chartwell Retirement Residences’ (CSH-UN-T) board of directors, succeeding former chair Mike Harris.

Thomas is the former president and CEO of SmartCentres Real Estate Investment Trust, where he also sat as a board trustee.

He is a director, chair of the audit committee and a member of the nominating and governance committee of Dollarama Inc., and also held held several senior roles at Canadian Tire Corp., including chief financial officer.

Thomas holds a B.Sc., Economics from the University of London and became a chartered accountant in 1984. He is a fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario.

Claxton appointed to Allied board

Allied Properties REIT (AP-UN-T) announced Hazel Claxton has been appointed as a trustee by the board.

Claxton is a corporate director who served as executive vice-president and chief human resources officer with Morneau Shepell Inc. (now LifeWorks Inc.) from 2013 to 2018.

Prior to that, Claxton spent 29 years at PwC Canada, where she held several leadership roles, including Canadian leadership group member, human capital leader and partner within the corporate advisory and restructuring group, an area she practiced in for 20 years.

She currently serves on the boards of TELUS Corporation, the University Pension Plan Ontario and Unity Health Toronto.

Claxton holds a bachelor of commerce (honours) from Queen’s University and the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. She is a CPA and CA.

Lam moves to Link REIT

Kenny Lam has moved from Manulife IM to Link REIT as chief investment officer responsible for strategic investment, mergers and acquisitions and portfolio management. (Courtesy Link REIT)

Kenny Lam has joined Link REIT, based in Hong Kong, as chief investment officer responsible for strategic investment, mergers and acquisitions and portfolio management. Lam, a real estate investment veteran, joined the manager in early June.

Before joining Link REIT, he was senior managing director, Asia chief investment officer and head of Asia transactions at Manulife Investment Management – Real Estate.

He led the formulation and implementation of the firm’s real estate investment strategy and the growth of its acquisitions platform in Asia.

Prior to that, he was chief manager of direct investment at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, responsible for the global real estate investment portfolio.

Lam holds a bachelor of engineering (honours), majoring in civil and structural Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, as well as a MBA majoring in finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

McCashin, Stefaniuk join Genesis senior leadership

Genesis Land Development Corp. (GDC-T) has named Brendan McCashin its vice-president, land development, and Arnold Stefaniuk as vice-president, regional planning.

Reporting to president and CEO Iain Stewart, both McCashin and Stefaniuk will be members of the company’s executive leadership team.

McCashin will lead the land development team in construction, marketing and architectural controls. Stefaniuk will lead engagements with public officials, community conceptualization and planning.

McCashin joined Genesis in 2021 bringing his extensive land development experience and expertise. He has played instrumental roles in approvals, design and construction of a number of new communities in Calgary over the past 14 years.

Stefaniuk has been with Genesis since 2000 and led the land development team for much of that time.

Bouchard heads BOMA BEST operations

BOMA Canada has hired Jacques-Yves Bouchard, an experienced professional with deep knowledge of real estate and research, to be the director of BOMA BEST operations.

Bouchard’s industry experience is broad and deep. Most recently he headed up research for commercial real estate information and marketplaces firm CoStar, where he led multiple teams of up to 50 researchers.

Prior to this, Bouchard led the Colliers team that developed and launched its national data collection platform.

Moore now a V-P at WWC

Western Wealth Capital (WWC) has appointed Nolan Moore to be its vice-president, capital markets and join the company’s executive team.

He will focus on raising capital with both new and existing institutional and private capital investor channels. Moore has specialized in multi-housing investment advisory and equity placement transactions in Northern California and Northern Nevada.

During his career, he has been involved in more than $5 billion in transactions.

In his previous role, he was a senior director in the San Francisco office of JLL Capital Markets, Americas, joining the company as part of the HFF acquisition where he began his career as an intern, then analyst, director and senior director.

Prior to joining WWC, he was the head of JLL’s Northern California Multi-housing Investment Advisory platform.

Local Logic hires, promotes four

Local Logic, a location intelligence provider, has made two appointments focused on product development and partnership growth. Thomas Fortier joins as Local Logic’s head of product, with Dustin Sutton is its new director of strategic partnerships.

In addition, Local Logic hired Caroline Shenoda and Carolyn Jang as product managers.

With a decade of experience in product management, most recently as head of new AI capability with ServiceNow, Fortier will be responsible for the strategy and operations associated with all of Local Logic’s products..

Sutton will be responsible for advancing efforts to provide location insights and analytics to the built world, and bringing in new data partnerships.

He has nearly two decades of experience as a real estate and tech entrepreneur and has collectively managed over 20 million square feet of real estate including residential, mixed-use, office, retail, and industrial portfolios.

Sutton also founded the BCREN (Black Commercial Real Estate Network).

Jang joined the company in early 2021 as a customer success manager, with a background in engineering and technical product management. Shenoda joins Local Logic with extensive product management experience, most recently with Mogo.

Parker moves into new position at Westbank

Tyson Parker has joined Westbank in the newly created position of VP, experiential development.

Parker will be involved in creating live and virtual experiences across Westbank’s projects, establishing entertainment strategies embracing arts, culture, music, food, retail and design. His initial focus will be on Mirvish Village in Toronto.

Previously the head of artist and music industry relations at Bell Media, Parker managed key relationships within the artist and talent community as well as the wider music industry in Canada for Bell Media’s portfolio of TV, radio, and digital brands.

Prior to that, Parker was vice-president, corporate communications and media and artist relations for Universal Music Canada.

CBRE adds Betman to clients services team

Elina Betman has joined CBRE Investment Management as a senior director in the client solutions team.

Betman, who has 15 years’ experience in the investment industry, joins the firm from TD Asset Management, where she served as vice-president, alternative investments. Prior to that, she was with Towers Watson.

A CFA, Betman holds a B.Comm in finance from McGill University. She is fluent in English and French.

MacLeod associate V-P at NAI

Marshall MacLeod has joined NAI Commercial as an associate vice-president, bringing 25 years of experience in both land development and investment properties.

Marshall was previously the leader of Western Canada land sales for another national commercial real estate company for 10 years and was constantly one of the top performers in residential development property and lead for recreational property throughout British Columbia.
