Rita Achrekar has joined the board of directors of QuadReal Property Group.
Achrekar brings over 30 years of experience in global capital markets, risk management, governance and business transformation. She serves on the boards of ICICI Bank Canada, Farm Credit Canada and Canadian Investor Protection Fund.
In addition to her extensive board experience, she is an executive in residence at the Global Risk Institute in Financial Services.
Previously, Achrekar was senior vice-president, global risk management at Scotiabank, leading global teams in market risk, credit risk and compliance transformation.
She volunteers as a mentor with Women in Capital Markets and Neythri in addition to frequently speaking at industry events on the topics of risk management and environmental, social and governance (ESG).
Reynal becomes CEO at Four Seasons
Alejandro Reynal has taken over as president and chief executive officer at Toronto-based hotel and hospitality company Four Seasons. He succeeds John Davison, a 20-year veteran of Four Seasons, who retired from the position but remains a member of the company's board.
Reynal, 49, brings over two decades of executive leadership experience in the global travel and hospitality, business services and telecommunications industries.
He most recently served as president and CEO of Apple Leisure Group, a luxury resort management and leisure travel group owned by Hyatt Hotels Corporation.
From 2011 to 2019, Reynal was CEO of Atento, a global customer relationship management and business process outsourcing services company.
Earlier in his career, Reynal held strategic management positions at Telefonica and The Coca-Cola Company.
Fanjoy takes senior CPP Investments role
CPP Investments has appointed Kristina Fanjoy senior managing director and chief financial officer.
Fanjoy will be responsible for the fund's financial policy and reporting strategy; business planning; performance reporting and analytics; valuations, financial controls and accounting; and tax governance.
Fanjoy joined CPP Investments in 2010 and has taken on progressively senior roles, most recently as managing director and Head of Finance.
Prior to joining CPP Investments, Fanjoy grew a career at KPMG across audit, compliance and advisory disciplines, culminating in a practice delivering international tax advice to global organizations in a variety of sectors.
She holds a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Toronto and is a CPA.
Jamieson-Mills appointed to Crombie board
Empire Company Ltd. has appointed Heidi Jamieson-Mills to Crombie Real Estate Investment Trust’s board of trustees. Jamieson-Mills is the senior vice-president finance, reporting, and treasury for Sobeys Inc.
She holds a bachelor of commerce degree from Dalhousie University and completed her chartered accountants professional designation in 2001.
She began her professional career with Grant Thornton LLP as an audit senior and taxation manager and has been with Sobeys for over 15 years in several locations across Canada in progressively senior roles.
In 2010, Jamieson-Mills was named one of Atlantic Canada's Top 50 leaders under 35, and in 2020, named one of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada by the Women's Executive Network.
She was appointed under an agreement which allows Empire and subsidiaries to appoint up to five trustees to Crombie’s board.
As a non-independent trustee, she will serve as a member of the investment committee.
Garrigan, MacDonald get new roles at Colliers
Peter Garrigan has been promoted to executive managing director and market leader for Colliers’ operations in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Burlington and Kitchener-Waterloo.
Garrigan has 18 years of progressive real estate experience, beginning his career at Colliers in 2004.
Since joining the firm, he spent over a decade as an advisor focusing on the industrial sector, then became vice-president of business development.
Over the last seven years, Garrigan has been leading the Industrial Practice Group in the GTA to record-breaking years while mentoring and growing his team.
Colliers also announced Bobby MacDonald has been appointed to the firm’s senior leadership team as managing director, Southwestern Ontario, leading the Burlington and Kitchener-Waterloo teams.
He brings over 20 years of experience managing operations, sales and client relationships in commercial real estate, IT and customer service, finance and telecommunications.
He joined Colliers in March 2022 as an advisor. Prior to joining the firm, MacDonald was the director, operations at NTT’s Business Process Outsourcing (formerly Millennium 1 Solutions).
He brings progressive experience from Knowledge First Financial and Bell Canada to his new role.
Genesis promotes Sidhu, Whitwell
Genesis Land Development Corp. has promoted P.S. Sidhu to senior vice-president, homebuilding, along with his role as president of Genesis Builders Group Inc., and Brian Whitwell as senior vice-president, asset management.
Reporting to president and CEO Iain Stewart, both Sidhu and Whitwell are members of the company's executive leadership team.
Sidhu is responsible for leading GBG and Whitwell is responsible for negotiating and executing on Genesis' land acquisitions/sales, financings and other related matters.
Sidhu joined Genesis in 2005 and has served as vice-president, home building and president, GBG since 2016. Whitwell has been with Genesis since 2009 and has served as vice-president since 2016.
Under Sidhu's leadership, GBG has grown into a production homebuilder now operating in 10 communities.
Whitwell's achievements include leading the acquisition of three land parcels totalling over 400 acres over the last four years, in addition to multiple financings and land sales.
JLL adds to Toronto office team
JLL has hired Rob Sweeney (executive vice-president), Sean Cline (associate vice-president) and Kate Rizzardo (senior transaction manager) to bolster its team specializing in corporate office tenants in Toronto.
Prior to joining JLL, the team completed over 1,500 lease transactions equating to over 10 million square feet and was recognized as one of the top office leasing teams in Canada.
Radford moves to Turner & Townsend Vancouver
Turner & Townsend has appointed Nick Radford as the cost centre leader for the Vancouver office.
Radford was previously based in the Toronto office for over four years where he led one of the firm’s key accounts, TD Bank.
He has previously worked in the U.K., Middle East and Asia in a career spanning nearly 25 years leading teams across many real estate sectors.
Rooney joins Flagship board
Flagship Communities Real Estate Investment Trust has appointed Ann Rooney to its board of trustees. Rooney will also sit on the REIT’s audit committee.
Rooney has held board member positions with Parkbridge Lifestyle Communities, The Nature Conservancy of Canada and the Alberta Securities Commission, and brings diverse skills, perspectives and expertise to the REIT.
Rooney’s appointment increases female representation on the board to approximately 29 per cent, underscoring the REIT’s commitment to diversity.
The REIT also announced the resignation of Iain Stewart, who served on the board since its initial public offering in 2020.
