Christina Giannone: Brightwater is ‘once-in-a-lifetime’

Christina Giannone grew up in a construction industry family, but it wasn’t until she took on a junior planning role after university that she discovered a passion for the complexity of the job.

Carla Guerrera founded Vancouver-based Purpose Driven Development in 2016 to do developments differently. A woman leading a development company in Canada is rare; using a triple-bottom-line lens to create social benefits and sustainability as well as profitability also sets it apart.

Costco Wholesale Corp. (COST-Q) missed analysts’ estimates for second-quarter profit on Thursday, as the warehouse club operator spent more on employee benefits who worked through the COVID-19 pandemic and sanitizing its stores.

As of Feb. 28,  BSR REIT‘s (HOM-UN-T) markets in TexasArkansas and Oklahoma had incurred approximately $0.1 million in expenses associated with the winter storm of Feb. 13-17 and resulting freeze damage. The REIT anticipates total costs not to exceed $0.3 million.

Mattamy HomesNorth America’s largest privately owned homebuilder announced it has secured property in one of the fastest-growing areas in Southern Arizona. The 22-acre property, purchased for $7.5 million, is located in the premier master-planned community of Gladden Farms.

In Canada, it’s illegal for a landlord to refuse to rent space to a person because of their race, citizenship, ethnicity or religion. But black real estate agents and renters say it is still happening far too frequently.

The number of people seeking short-term financial help from the Vancouver Rent Bank has increased significantly since the pandemic was declared in March 2020, with job loss and underemployment driving the demand.
