Mike Laurie, P.Eng. is the founder and president of Planit Engineering, a Canadian building measurement and building information company founded more than three decades ago. His work spans commercial building measurement, BOMA area certification, existing-building documentation and digital building information. He also serves as an expert witness on building measurement, floor area, BOMA standards and related CRE disputes. Planit works with Builtstream, a Canadian building technology company, on selected digital building information and intelligence initiatives.

Commercial real estate does something strange with building knowledge. When a property is being acquired, everybody wants to know everything. Engineers inspect it, consultants measure it, lawyers review the leases, environmental reports are ordered, equipment is assessed and capital requirements are estimated.
