Alex Hryciw, chair of the Downtown Recovery Coalition in Edmonton, joins host Gerald Tostowaryk to explore issues which are affecting both the Alberta capital and many other urban areas across Canada.
They discuss the coalition's work revitalizing Edmonton's downtown and attempting to return it to a vibrant, dynamic and exciting place to be. Among the topics are the ongoing shift to hybrid work models and the many impacts that has on urban downtown cores, and the need for a heightened focus on the 15-minute city concept.
The impacts include potential safety concerns, the loss of retailers due to lower foot traffic, and strategies which are being employed to stem and turn the tide.
