Crestpoint, partners acquire $600M worth of urban properties
Crestpoint Real Estate Investments Ltd. and its investment partners have been busy thus far in 2018, acquiring office and industrial properties worth more than $600 million in three major Canadian cities. The acquisitions in Greater Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto bring Crestpoint’s total gross asset value to approximately $3.5 billion.

Suburban buildings benefit from GTA office crunch
Record low office vacancy rates and rising rents in downtown and midtown Toronto could pave the way for better results in the suburbs, according to a new Avison Young report. “The ongoing trend of people and companies gravitating to urban locations has clearly narrowed the number of options available for tenants…” said Bill Argeropoulos of Avison Young.

At 14 per cent, Saskatoon’s rental apartment vacancy rate is at a level that might spur Vancouver or Toronto’s embattled renters to consider quitting their jobs and moving to the Prairies.. “Tenants now have options,” said Duncan Mayer, research manager with Colliers International Saskatchewan.

When I started my career 15 years ago in Texas, most major homebuilders in Dallas operated across the state, and many were publicly traded companies with offices across the United States. When I moved back to Canada, I was surprised there were no residential developers listed on the TSX. The market was dominated by private, family-run homebuilders.
Six months ago: Downtown Montreal office ‘has never been stronger’
The future looks brighter than it has in a long time for commercial leasing and development in downtown Montreal, panelists agreed during a discussion on the state of the city’s office market. “I think next year is going to continue to be strong. Downtown has never been stronger,” says Robert Giglio, vice-president, leasing at Bentall Kennedy. “People are interested in the city.”
One year ago: Canderel buys prime Toronto Harbourfront site
A prime piece of Toronto lakeshore property is about to get a revitalization from the Canderel Group of Companies. Montreal-based Canderel acquired the site, 545 Lake Shore Dr., West from Rogers Media Inc., in a deal brokered by Cushman & Wakefield. The 1.8-acre site is a short walk from the downtown Toronto Billy Bishop Airport at the western edge of the Queen’s Quay.
