Cousins Marie Pier Germain and Hugo Germain have been appointed co-presidents of Germain Hotels, a Quebec-based company behind 19 hotels in Canada.
A family-owned business founded in 1988 with offices in Quebec City and Montreal, the two second-generation Germains are taking over the reins from co-founders and siblings Jean-Yves and Christiane Germain.
The new co-presidents have each been with the company for approximately 20 years.
Hugo Germain developed the company’s three brands as director of development and moves up from being the vice-president of operations. Marie Pier Germain’s most recent positions were as regional director and director of hotel design, and vice-president of sales and marketing.
"I have had the privilege of working closely with Hugo since he joined the company. He was the very first general manager of the Alt banner and, from the very beginning, embodied the innovative spirit that is a cornerstone of our brand," Christiane Germain said in the announcement.
"I have seen Marie Pier successfully lead complex projects such as the opening of our first hotel in Calgary in 2006, and later, the major transformation of Le Germain Hotel Montreal in 2018. On each occasion, she demonstrated remarkable strategic intelligence and an exceptional eye for detail." Jean-Yves Germain added, in the release.
A focus on expanding Germain's hotels
Marie Pier Germain holds a bachelor’s of engineering from Queen's University and an MBA from a joint program between McGill University and HEC Montréal. Hugo Germain earned his bachelor’s in international business from Concordia University and an MBA from Queen's.
As co-presidents, the priority of the two will be expanding Germain Hotels' reach across Canada and beyond, while maintaining a focus on “authenticity and sustainable development,” according to a press release.
"It is a true privilege to continue the work of our parents while writing the next chapters. We do so with respect and ambition, surrounded by an exceptional team working in every region of the country," Marie Pier Germain said in her statement.
"We grew up with this company and have poured our hearts into it. Today, we are ready to take charge in our own way while remaining true to the values that have made Germain Hotels so strong. Our goal remains the same: to ensure that every guest enjoys an unforgettable experience when they stay with us," Hugo Germain added in his comments.
