Lorne Segal, president of Kingswood Properties, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.

The appointment recognizes Segal’s decades of leadership in real estate development, as well as his commitment to philanthropy, mental health advocacy, youth empowerment and community service.

“This honour carries special meaning because it connects me to my father, Joe Segal, who first showed me what a life of contribution looks like. He taught me that success is measured not only by what we accomplish but by what we contribute. Those values have guided me throughout my life,” Segal said.

Kingswood specializes in high-end properties, including its crown jewel, that was constructed in 2001. “Lorne pioneered super-luxury living in Vancouver two decades ago with The Kingswood, a world-class residential tower,” according to its website.

Kingswood’s current properties include a 42-storey luxury suite building at Fifteen Fifteen, 1040 West Georgia Street, which is a 22-storey commercial tower, and 611 Alexander Street, a 345,959 square foot office building on Vancouver’s waterfront.

In addition to his real estate business, Segal has helped raise more than $15 million for the Coast Mental Health Foundation, among other charitable endeavours.
