MasterBUILT Hotels rapidly expands Microtel brand
Calgary-based MasterBUILT Hotels is setting a blistering pace as it expands the Microtel Inn and Suites brand across Canada. “In the next month we’ll have 17 Microtels open across the country and another two opening within the next eight or nine months . . . and we’re expecting another eight to 10 to start this year. . .” says MasterBUILT president Eric Watson.
Saskatoon set for wave of high-end office space
Saskatoon’s business tenants will soon have an opportunity to shift from aging office stock into an inventory flush with new high-end work spaces, as several new projects get underway in the mining office hub. “We haven’t seen major new office buildings built for quite some time,” said Tom McClocklin, the president and managing director of Colliers International Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
Montreal’s Humaniti enters final development phase
Cogir Real Estate, DevMcGill and the Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ are about to release the final phase of their $200-million Humaniti Montreal project to market. The firms said Tuesday the 158 condos which are part of the mixed-use development will go on sale April 28. Occupancy is expected to begin during the summer of 2020.
Vision Capital looks for value in CRE securities
Vision Capital Corp.’s Vision Opportunity Funds have an impressive annualized return of 14.7 per cent since inception in July 2008. “We focus on taking advantage of inefficiencies in the market for publicly traded real estate securities, the result of which is we buy real estate cheaper in the stock market than in the Canadian property market,” said Vision president, CEO and portfolio manager Jeffrey Olin.
Evolv1 earns Canada’s first Zero Carbon Building certification
The Cora Group’s evolv1 office building in Waterloo, Ont., is the first to apply for and receive the Canada Green Building Council’s new Zero Carbon Building – Design certification. “We’ve been developing sustainably for over a decade,” The Cora Group COO Adrian Conrad said of his Waterloo-based development and property management company.
Don’t let the failures spook us from new technology
The media buzz these days about driverless vehicles gleefully fixates on the failures and the blood shed as much as it does on the successes and the potential. But is an emphasis on perceived risks to public safety a red herring? Six months ago: GTA office sales bolster record CRE investment
Commercial real estate investment in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is on pace to set a record this year after $4.6 billion in transactions took place in the third quarter. Avison Young, in a new report, says the level of activity, bolstered by strong investor interest in office buildings, was 12 per cent higher than the previous quarter.
One year ago: Starlight adds second new Hamilton high-rise
Toronto-based Starlight Investments has added another luxury multi-residential property to its rapidly expanding portfolio in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). Starlight announced this week the completion of the forward sale of the newly constructed 29-storey Regency Suites in Hamilton.
