Montreal’s historic Sun Life Building wins modern awards
It’s 100 years old, but the Sun Life Building in Montreal could easily survive another century in excellent condition if investments continue to be made in its upkeep, its property manager says. When new tenants think of the Sun Life Building, “they think of an older building because of the architecture,” says Ryan Zamestrieus, senior property manager at Bentall Kennedy (Canada). “But we’re innovative and fully automated.”

Sunray Group buys Delta Toronto East Hotel property
Sunray Group has won the bidding for the highly coveted Delta Toronto East Hotel and development property after a court-ordered wind-up of the assets of previous owner Tarn Financial Corporation. “There was a tremendous amount of interest in the property from local, regional, national and international investors,” said Robin McLuskie of Colliers International.

Cadre, an online startup which makes commercial real estate investments, recently expanded into Canada through the opening of a Toronto office focused exclusively on software product development. The Canadian office of the fintech is strictly for research, engineering, and product development and “we are not raising money or signing deals in the area,” says Cadre’s Raj Singh.

Six months ago: Plaza Retail REIT busy buying, selling, building
Business is brisk these days at Plaza Retail REIT, which has 23 projects under development or redevelopment and has been active selling and acquiring properties. Current developments will add about 1.82 million square feet to Plaza’s portfolio. “We’ve got a very full pipeline and it continues to get fuller,” said Plaza’s chief financial officer Floriana Cipollone.
One year ago: DevImco to kick off Solar Uniquartier
Construction is expected to start in August on Devimco’s $1.5 billion mixed-use Solar Uniquartier development on Montreal’s South Shore. The massive project in Brossard will include 2,500 residential units, 500,000 square feet of office space, 500,000 square feet of commercial space, two boutique hotels, sports complex, convention centre and a park of more than 130,000 square feet.
