Real estate financing and investment firm Trez Capital has promoted one of its top leaders, John Maragliano, to share its chief executive duties.
With more than 25 years experience in the financial services industry Maragliano will serve with existing co-chief executive officer John D. Hutchinson.
Maragliano is replacing Dean Kirkham, who is leaving the company after being co-chief executive officer and president since 2023. Kirkham had joined Trez as chief credit officer in 2016.
Maragliano joined the company as its chief financial officer in 2021.
His previous roles include time as chief financial officer with SNAP Financial Group, and as executive vice-president and group chief financial officer at Butterfield Bank.
Hutchinson, who is also the global head of origination, came on board at Trez Capital in 2012.
As part of the transition, the existing leadership team will also see other changes:
- Christian Skogen is now chief investment officer. He joined Trez Capital as chief risk officer in 2021; and
- Keiju Yamasaki was named chief credit officer. He had been global head of credit risk and underwriting since joining the company in 2021.
The executive leadership team guiding the firm’s daily operations will comprise Hutchinson, Maragliano, Skogen, John Creswell and Alec Barry. Darren Esser will also join the leadership team.
Transition at the top for RE/MAX Canada
The president of RE/MAX Canada (RMAX-N) will be leaving the firm early next month. Christopher Alexander will continue in his role until March 3 and serve in a consultant’s role through June 30.
He will remain connected to RE/MAX as a brokerage owner in Ontario and as a consultant for RE/MAX Europe.
Alexander became the company's Canadian president in 2021, after being a sales representative for more than 15 years. He has been involved in various roles with RE/MAX since 2014.
Erik Carlson, chief executive officer of RE/MAX Holdings, will oversee operations in the region until the next president is identified.
Parvis makes moves within executive team
Parvis Invest (PVIS-X) announced that Jas Bagry will step down as chief financial officer, but is to remain on the firm's board of directors.
Tommy Chan, who was director of finance, has become the interim chief financial officer. He brings more than 15 years of experience in corporate finance, financial planning, analysis and leadership to the role.
As well, Parvis has promoted Zoe Seguev to chief compliance officer and head of operations, and Guillermo O’Byrne to director of product.
Seguev joined the firm in 2023 and has more than 10 years of regulatory compliance and operational leadership experience.
O’Byrne was hired in 2022 and has over seven years of experience in product management.
Genesis Land Development VPs retire
Genesis Land Development (GDC-T) announced the retirements of Wayne King, senior vice-president, information systems and special projects, and Arnie Stefaniuk, vice-president, regional planning.
King had joined Genesis in 2017 as chief financial officer, while Stefaniuk first joined in 1999 before leaving in 2005. He rejoined the firm in 2010 and had served with Genesis since then.
PCL’s Ahrendt to lead new centre of excellence
PCL Construction has created a new manufacturing centre of excellence to manage investment in reshoring production to the U.S. and Canada.
It will house manufacturing experts and aims to centralize talent into one team across North America. The group will help streamline new plant facility planning, engineering, construction and production start-up.
PCL veteran Andrew Ahrendt, with 30 years of experience overseeing manufacturing projects, will lead the new organization.
Ahrendt is a manufacturing expert, serving on the leadership council of the U.S. National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) since 2022. He also was recently named board chair of the Colorado Chamber of Commerce (a NAM affiliate).
The PCL arm will be based in Denver, and will operate in a range of sectors, including food and beverage, agribusiness, process and chemical, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, battery and electronics, life science, medical device and logistics.
New Edmonton leader at Colliers
Kelly Pawlik has joined Colliers Canada as vice-president, industrial in Edmonton.
Pawlik has plenty of experience in commercial real estate in Edmonton with more than two decades on the landlord and developer side. Previously he worked with ONE Properties, Oxford Properties Group and ING Real Estate Canada.
His career includes involvement in industrial development and leasing, with more than four million square feet of development and in excess of 10 million square feet of leasing and management.
Pawlik will be working alongside Rod Connop, executive vice-president and Evelyn Stolk, senior vice-president at Colliers.
Wilson to lead Ontario architects
Ted Wilson has been named president for the governing council of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA).
As an architect and master lecturer at Laurentian University’s McEwen School of Architecture (MSoA), he was acclaimed to the one-year position at the OAA Council meeting in Toronto on Jan. 23. He is based in Sudbury, Ont.
Wilson has worked with several Canadian architecture practices, including AECOM Canada Architects, where he co-ordinated engineering with LGA Architectural Partners for the design of MSoA, where he now teaches.
With the OAA, Wilson previously served as senior vice-president and treasurer, and has chaired committees on governance, finance and sustainable design.
The OAA is the governing body for the architecture industry in Ontario.
