
Extendicare (EXE-T) has appointed Donald Clow and Heather-Anne Irwin to its board of directors to fill out the existing term.
Both directors' terms will expire at the next annual general meeting, when Clow and Irwin will then stand for election.
The seniors' housing company also announced the retirement of Al Mawani from the board after seven years of service. Mawani had served as a member of various committees, including as chair of the investment committee.
The updated board will have nine directors.
Clow has a long history in the real estate sector having held C-suite positions in several organizations.
He served as president and chief executive officer of Crombie REIT from 2009 until 2023, and was previously president at ECL Developments. He was also president and minority owner of Southwest Properties, a residential and commercial real estate development company in Halifax.
Clow is the independent lead trustee of H&R REIT, where he is a member of various committees. He previously served as a trustee of Granite REIT from 2016 to 2019 and as a governor at Acadia University from 2012 to 2021.
Irwin is adjunct professor of finance at the Rotman School of Management, U of T and a corporate director. Irwin had a 17-year career in capital markets before joining Rotman. Her experience covers equity capital markets, debt capital markets and investment banking at TD Securities from 1996 to 2002, Nesbitt Burns from 1989 to 1996 and Citibank Canada from 1986 to 1989.
Irwin serves on the board of Artis REIT where she is a member of the audit and the governance, nominating and compensation committees. She is also a director of the Ontario Financing Authority.
She is the founding president of, and advisor to, VersaFi (formerly Women in Capital Markets).
Alexander lands at Hyyve after leaving RE/MAX
Hyyve has welcomed Christopher Alexander to its advisory board following his departure as president of RE/MAX Canada.
Alexander’s real estate experience began as a sales associate with RE/MAX in 2010. He served in many key executive roles, including chief strategy officer and executive vice-president of RE/MAX INTEGRA.
In 2021, he was appointed president of RE/MAX Canada.
New CEO at Padlock funds
Padlock Euro Storage Fund I and Padlock Partners UK Fund IV have tapped Iyngaran Muniandy as new chief executive officer of both trusts, replacing John Stevenson.
Muniandy brings 16 years of investment experience to the position. He is the managing director of European real estate at Clear Sky Capital, a privately owned real estate investment management and development company which manages the trusts.
Muniandy was previously with Macquarie Group’s principal finance team in London.
Stevenson, who previously led the Padlock funds, will continue as a senior advisor.
Padlock Euro Storage Fund I is an unincorporated investment trust and invests in income producing commercial real estate properties in U.K. with a focus on self-storage and mixed-use properties. Padlock Partners UK Fund IV is an unincorporated investment trust and invests in a diversified portfolio of income-producing commercial real estate properties in U.K., mainly self-storage properties.
Both are registered in Canada.
Cartterra appoints new VP
Carttera recently hired Jaimy Hunt as vice-president of asset management. Hunt will oversee asset management and leasing of industrial and office properties within the firm’s urban intensification funds and segregated mandates.
Before joining the real estate investment fund manager, asset manager and developer, Hunt worked at KingSett Capital, Cadillac Fairview and Cushman & Wakefield.
Hunt joins an organization developing over 20 office, mixed-use, industrial and multiresidential projects with a combined value of $6.2 billion. It has also developed over 10 million square feet of commercial projects and more than 5,900 condominium units and apartments.
Jagger moves to CBRE Vancouver
Cynthia Jagger has joined CBRE Vancouver’s national investment team.
She has extensive experience in commercial real estate, completing more than 100 property sales surpassing $2 billion. Jagger was also named among Business in Vancouver’s Top 500 Most Influential Business Leaders in B.C. for two consecutive years.
Bringing more than 20 years of expertise — with stints at Dexter Realty, Goodman Commercial, Altus Group and DTZ Barnicke — Jagger will work with Jim Szabo, vice-chairman national investment team, Tony Quattrin, vice-chairman national investment team, as well as with Vincent Minichiello and Anthony Liang.
Jagger has worked as an advocate for the real estate industry, and she frequently speaks at real estate forums and to the media.
New associate at Transacte Agence Immobilière
Boutique real estate agency Transacte Agence Immobilière has added Ahmed Kilani as a new associate.
With 18 years of experience in pharmacy, investment and real estate, Kilani, a pharmacist by training, practised in Quebec before he bought a struggling pharmacy and was able to turn around the company.
Kilani then turned to investment and real estate. As an angel investor, he supports startups in life sciences and fintech, and helps entrepreneurs in venture capital. He also worked at Avison Young Canada and Cushman & Wakefield.
Kilani specializes in the sale and acquisition of RPA (private seniors’ residences), RI (intermediate resources) and private long-term care facilities (CHSLD). These include medical clinics, pharmacies, dental offices, and any other professional practice in the health field.
New board for OHBA subsidiary
The Ontario Home Builders’ Association (OHBA) has chosen a new board of directors for ENERQUALITY. The interim board (composed of Brian Johnston, Peter Saturno, president of Midhaven Homes, and Gord Cooke) had recently appointed Joe Vaccaro as CEO.
The permanent board consists of:
- Paul De Berardis, vice-president, building standards and engineering at RESCON;
- Dino Chiesa, former chair of CMHC;
- Jacqueline Collier, director, sales and marketing at Tamarack Homes;
- Cooke, president of Building Knowledge Canada;
- Dan Gabriele, president of Marz Homes;
- Johnston, director of Sienna Senior Living and the CMHC, and former CEO of CreateTO;
- Michael Lio, president of buildABILITY and former CEO of ENERQUALITY;
- Scott Stevens, executive business coach in the housing industry; and
- Bernie Torchia, former senior vice-president, high-rise construction at Mattamy Homes.
OHBA acquired full ownership of ENERQUALITY in 2024 after being a shareholder since its inception.
