NYX Capital expands into ‘underserved’ self-storage market
NYX Capital Corp. has partnered with Bluebird Self Storage to develop a state-of-the-art facility at the former office of The National Post in Toronto. The more-than-$40-million development at 1450 Don Mills Road is just one of several self-storage facilities the Toronto-based private equity real estate firm plans to develop in the Greater Toronto Area.
Spaces plans its largest co-working sites in Toronto, Vancouver
Spaces will open its two largest North American co-working locations, totalling almost 250,000 square feet, in Toronto and Vancouver. The slightly larger location will be in The Well, a mixed-use development at 460 Front St. W., in Toronto. Spaces The Well is to open in 2022. Spaces West Georgia will be in 400W. Georgia when it opens in Vancouver in 2021.
Thousands of new apartment units ‘at risk’ in Vancouver
Approximately 12,000 planned purpose-built rental apartment units worth an estimated $5 billion in Metro Vancouver are at risk of not getting built due to government policies, rising construction costs and delayed permitting, says apartment building sales specialist David Goodman of HQ Commercial.

CBRE Canada announced Tuesday president and CEO Mark Renzoni will step down as of January 1 and Toronto-based executive vice president Werner Dietl will succeed him. Sobeys owner Empire pays ‘top dollar’ to buy Farm Boy
UPDATED: Empire Company Ltd. will pay “top dollar” for 26 Ontario Farm Boy stores because of the fresh food retailer’s dramatic growth, industry-leading per-store revenues, and its expansion pipeline. That was the message from president / CEO Michael Medline after the Stellarton, N.S.-based parent company of Sobeys and FreshCo is buying Farm Boy for $800 million.
New initiatives lift Oxford back atop GRESB rankings
Toronto-based Oxford Properties is once again at the top of the annual Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) ranking in the category of North American diversified retail and office assets. The real estate investment firm reached the top spot in the international assessment and ranking program five out of the last six years, except for 2017, said Oxford’s Head of Office, Andrew McAllan.
Fort Nelson Dene director named B.C. Land Champion
Fort Nelson First Nation director Lana Lowe, who “has made enormous contributions to manage and protect water, land, and wildlife habitat,” will receive the 2018 Land Champion Award from The Real Estate Foundation of B.C. The award recognizes a person who has made a significant impact on land use, conservation, and/or real estate practices in the province.

Allied Properties REIT has had a busy couple of days, announcing a major Toronto joint venture with Westbank will proceed, while adding a key downtown property to its portfolio. Allied and Westbank will partner on a multi-use tower incorporating an existing heritage building at 19 Duncan St. Allied also purchased 70 The Esplanade.
