Truman begins construction of Calgary’s West District
Calgary-based developer and builder Truman Development Corp. has begun construction of its master-planned community in the southwest part of the city that will feature a Central Park, a main street, almost 1.7 million square feet of office and retail space and thousands of new homes spread across a 100-acre site. The 15-year build cycle for West District includes 2,758 homes.
Regus enters Hamilton’s growing co-working market
Co-working isn’t just making inroads into Canada’s largest office markets. The shared work space trend is also expanding in smaller business centres, including Hamilton, where the industry’s biggest player has just set up shop. “We’ve actually been looking in Hamilton for the last three years,” said Wayne Berger, executive vice-president of Regus Canada.
Ottawa’s Regional Group banks on Vanier resurgence
The east Ottawa neighbourhood of Vanier is not often associated with the word “trendy”. But the Regional Group of Companies is among a group of developers who see signs of promise in one of the National Capital’s most downtrodden districts. Regional has invested in a series of properties along Montreal Rd., an area which borders the city’s central business district less than two kilometres east of Parliament Hill.
Devimco to build $500M Montreal Métro development
UPDATED with additional details: Montreal-based developer Devimco Immobilier says it has been chosen by the City of Longueuil to build a $500-million mixed-use urban living space as part of the city’s downtown Centre-Ville project. The transit-oriented development will cover an area of one million square feet and will be built above the existing Metro station.
Perkins+Will using data to design office workplaces
While data drives how many businesses operate these days, one area you probably wouldn’t think about it being applied to is office workplace design. Perkins+Will Canadian corporate interiors leader Janine Grossman has, and it’s becoming a bigger part of her job at the 83-year-old architecture firm which employs more than 2,000 in 24 offices around the world.
Six months ago: InterRent, Trinity, PBC JV on major Ottawa project
InterRent Real Estate Investment Trust has announced a multi-use “transformational development” in downtown Ottawa at the junction of the city’s two new light rail transit (LRT) lines. InterRent purchased one-third of the approximately 3.6-acre site at 900 Albert Street for $14.2 million in a joint venture with Trinity Developments and PBC Real Estate Advisors Inc. Each of the partners holds a one-third interest in the development.
One year ago: SmartREIT teams up with SmartStop on self-storage
Smart Real Estate Investment Trust has entered a 50/50 joint venture partnership with SmartStop Asset Management, LLC to build and co-own rental self-storage facilities in Canada. SmartREIT had been looking at various uses for vacant land associated with its properties and, after meeting with a number of parties, decided SmartStop and its self-storage centres were the best strategic fit.
