Toronto industrial rents ‘finally’ starting to rise
If you are looking to purchase or lease industrial space in Canada largest market, a panel of experts at the recent Toronto Real Estate Forum had some advice: expect the purchase to be competitive, and expect rents to continue to rise. “We’ve been expecting and waiting for rent growth for years, especially in the GTA, and we are finally starting to see it,” said Simon Holmes, senior vice president, investments, of Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP.
China’s Greenland builds Lakeside Residences in Toronto
Downtown Toronto’s East Bayfront is about to receive its latest injection of new life with Lakeside Residences by Greenland Group (Canada). The 3.85-acre site formerly occupied by FedEx will be “transformed into a master-planned community with seven towers and upwards of 2,000 new residential units and over 30,000 square feet of retail space,” according to Amanda Ireland, CEO of Milborne Group, which is overseeing marketing and sales of the development.
Salefish more than just real estate transaction software
Salefish Software received the Global Innovation Award from the National Association of Home Builders last year, when one in every six low-rise homes in the Greater Toronto Area and Greater Golden Horseshoe were sold using its software. High-tech, energy-efficient homes in Eden Park, east of Toronto
Fourteen Estates’ Eden Park subdivision in Newtonville, Ont. will be comprised of 28 energy-efficient homes built with BONE Structure’s patented steel structure construction system. “We’re definitely pushing the envelope on the modern design side and with the technology and efficiency of these homes,” said Mark Wadden, president and chief executive officer of Blue Elephant Group Inc., which is overseeing marketing and sales for Eden Park.
Athena Institute fetes 20 years of life cycle assessments
The Athena Sustainable Materials Institute recently marked its 20th anniversary of cutting-edge work examining the environmental life cycle impacts of construction materials and buildings. The institute’s researchers provide two free tools that make the complex science of LCA accessible to non-experts. The “Impact Estimator for Buildings” allows architects and engineers to calculate the life cycle environmental impacts of their design decisions. The “Pavement LCA” tool helps roadway and highway engineers reduce the lifetime impacts of their projects.

Kelowna’s residents, government and stakeholders are scrutinizing a two-tower project that, if approved, would be the tallest buildings between Metro Vancouver and Calgary. One Water Street, is being co-developed by Florida-based North American Development Group (NADG) and Kerkhoff Construction of Chilliwack, B.C
