National Housing Strategy comes up short: Industry reps
The federal government’s National Housing Strategy doesn’t go far enough to meet the needs of a large group of Canadians finding it increasingly difficult to become homeowners, says the Canadian Home Builders Association. On Wednesday, the government announced the 10-year, $40 billion plan to reduce homelessness and improve the availability and quality of housing for Canadians in need. Kevin Lee, CEO of CHBA, says the plan is more of a national social housing strategy that doesn’t address the wider elements of housing affordability.
Intracorp growth leads to North American consolidation

The company is moving to bring that sprawling organization under one leader, and one corporate banner. All of Intracorp’s North American operations will now be overseen by president and chief executive officer Don Forsgren.

In an ideal universe tenants could plan ahead and leave themselves enough time to complete a comprehensive commercial real estate search before leasing. They wouldn’t feel pressured to take space that isn’t quite right or doesn’t entirely suit their needs. But it happens far too often in my world world. Why?

Longueuil plans to have a major new downtown by 2035 that will be built around its existing Metro station. “It’s the type of project that comes only once in a lifetime,” Longueuil mayor Caroline St-Hilaire told a business audience at the Montreal Board of Trade’s recent Strategic Forum on Major Real Estate Projects.
One year ago: RioCan-Boardwalk JV just the start for retail REIT
RioCan REIT this month announced the creation of a joint venture with Boardwalk REIT to develop a mixed use tower on part of the retail REIT’s Brentwood Village Shopping Centre in Calgary. Rather than a one-off, the $70-million project is likely just the first of many such intensification schemes in the works for the country’s largest REIT.
