Broccolini plans Montreal’s tallest residential tower
Broccolini plans to build the tallest residential tower in Montreal on land it recently acquired near the Tour de la Bourse, it announced at the Montreal Real Estate Forum. In another major development, First Capital Realty will spend $250 million to replace its Wilderton Shopping Centre with a 600,000-square-foot residential and commercial project.
KingSett buys American Business Park near Toronto airport
KingSett Capital has acquired the 552,675-square-foot American Business Park on the Toronto-Mississauga border near Pearson International Airport. The site comprises 33 acres of “highly functional small, medium and large bay industrial and flex office located in the Pearson International ‘Airport Megazone’ ” KingSett says.
First Capital Realty sells interests in two portfolios
First Capital Realty has closed on the sale of 24 income and development properties in two transactions valued at $364 million. The bulk of the sales involve 18 properties held in a joint venture with Main and Main Urban Realty. The other transaction involves a 50.5 per cent transfer of a non-managing interest in six London, Ont., retail properties.
Bentall Kennedy, Sun Life acquire Montreal office buildings
Bentall Kennedy has acquired two “best-in-class” office buildings from Mile-End Investments Inc., 7250 and 7450 rue du Mile End, in Montreal’s dynamic Mile End District. The acquisition on behalf of Sun Life Financial, is well-positioned to serve a growing technology and innovation sector in the city. The properties add almost 400,000 square feet of office space to Sun Life Financial’s portfolio in Quebec.
‘Unique’ 5,200-acre Batchawana Island for sale
Batchawana Island, one of North America’s largest privately owned islands, is for sale. The undeveloped 5,200-acre island north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., in Lake Superior, is being marketed by Colliers Canada for $14.95 million. “If somebody wants a really unique property, this is their opportunity,” said Mark Lester, Colliers’ senior vice-president of unique properties.
What’s missing in Saskatchewan gov’t asset sale discussion
The discussion regarding crown participation in the private sector surfaced again recently. A news story was published stating the Saskatchewan government was considering the sale of Innovation Place’s Saskatoon campus to the University of Saskatchewan and its Regina business park to the University of Regina.
Six months ago: Calgary’s Telus Sky tower faces slow leasing market
The TELUS Sky tower in downtown Calgary is the last skyscraper under construction during the city’s most recent building cycle, but it faces a tough challenge to lease office space in an economy that is recovering slowly. The 60-storey, 750,000 square foot project is unique in Calgary. It will have a retail floor, topped by 29 floors of office space and then a further 30 floors of residential rental units in the heart of the city at 7th Avenue S.W. and Centre Street.

Medallion Corp. is building out a Vision for the Town of Ajax. The Toronto-based developer recently held a “topping off” ceremony for the first of two mixed-use Vision Towers which will soon stand at the corner of Harwood and Bayly streets in the growing municipality just east of Toronto.
