Groupe Mach plans to build a 4.5-million-sq.-ft. Quartier des Lumières (Lights District) next to the existing CBC building in Montreal. The project includes transformation of the 24-storey Maison de Radio-Canada into office space, hotel and conference centre, surrounded by 3,000 residential units, additional office and retail, a school and entertainment facilities.

SHARC’s wastewater heat recovery breaks into hotel sector
Alberta’s Lake Louise Inn is the first hotel in the world to install SHARC International Systems Inc.’s Piranha wastewater heat recovery system. “They’re always trying to be greener and more energy-efficient and more environmentally sensitive,” said SHARC chief executive officer and chairman Lynn Mueller of Atlific Hotels, which manages Lake Louise Inn and more than 55 other hotels.

Anthem Properties has been known mainly as a retail and residential investment and development company, but it is adding a third class: industrial. It is staying close to home to start rebuilding its presence, with deals to purchase four Calgary properties totalling about 255,000 square feet says investment director Jordan Carlson.

Canada’s bull run in commercial real estate shows no sign of abating despite ongoing threats to NAFTA and concerns over Canada’s overheated housing market, said CBRE’s executive vice-president. Paul Morassutti said commercial property investment and leasing in Canada “continues to defy predictions while grappling with an unprecedented level of change”.
