Landowner Group’s Calgary Sage Hill development clears hurdle
Calgary City Council has paved the way for the Landowner Group partnership to seek approvals for a medium to high residential density mixed-use development in the Symons Valley sector. The amendment to the Symons Valley Community Plan means Landowner Group – Genesis Land Development Corp., Anderson Builders Group and the City of Calgary – can proceed with securing land use and plan approvals for the project.

The first stage of the 2.9-million-square-foot downtown Toronto Bay Park Centre office complex that will house CIBC’s headquarters and a new GO bus terminal is set to break ground in June. “The overall project value is projected to be a little under $2 billion,” said Jonathan Pearce, Ivanhoé Cambridge’s senior vice-president of North American office leasing.

The recent move to make Real Estate its own standalone sector on the Toronto Stock Exchange main trading index is a potential game changer. In its quarterly REIT review and outlook, RBC Dominion Securities noted that taking real estate out of the financial services sector is a recognition that listed real estate companies have characteristics which are unique within the Financials sector.
