Regus affiliate Spaces launches in Canada
Shared office and co-working space provider Regus acquired European-based Spaces in 2015 to boost its portfolio. Now, the Canadian roll-out of Spaces has begun. Spaces launched in Canada with the opening of a 46,000-square-foot facility in a heritage brick-and-beam building leased from Allied Properties REIT at 180 John St. in Toronto’s vibrant Queen Street West neighbourhood.
Sales brisk, Broccolini set to build luxury Montreal condos
Now that it is more than 80 per cent sold, Broccolini is slated to begin construction next year on its $150-million 628 St. Jacques luxury condo project across from Victoria Square in Old Montreal. Most of the 258 units in the 35-storey condo sold within a few weeks after the project opened to the public last month. The building, on the last parcel of redevelopment land available in the vicinity of Victoria Square, is to be completed in 2021.
ICE District leads downtown Edmonton CRE revival
The ICE District is leading a rejuvenation in downtown Edmonton — and making a major impression in the city’s office market. “The concept is resonating with everybody,” says Glen Scott, President of Katz Group Real Estate, which is developing the 25-acre, mixed-use site. “It’s the reboot of the downtown of Edmonton.”
PCI’s Marine Gateway in Vancouver wins ULI award
Marine Gateway, a prominent mixed-use development on the Canada Line SkyTrain route in South Vancouver, has won an Urban Land Institute (ULI) 2017-2018 Global Award for Excellence. The multi-tower project by Vancouver-based PCI Developments opened at the end of 2015. It’s one of the 13 recipients of the 2017-2018 global award.
Downtown Vancouver office space a ‘landlord’s market’
Downtown Vancouver is entering an extended period without any major office tower openings, even as demand for workspace continues to rise, say local commercial property stakeholders. The downtown office vacancy rate is forecast to drop below five per cent, with no new buildings expected in the next three years, said Jeff Rank, a senior vice-president of leasing with QuadReal.

Six months ago: 16 York breaks ground in Toronto’s south core
A downtown Toronto office tower that broke ground at 16 York St. on Wednesday is the first to be built on spec by Cadillac Fairview since the developer was purchased by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan in 2000. CF is building the $479-million, 32-storey building in financial partnership with the Ontario Pension Board.

Anthem Properties and an undisclosed Canadian institutional investor have purchased Grandview Properties Park in Vancouver. Grandview Properties Park is on the Vancouver-Burnaby border and encompasses the block, a location easily accessible to SkyTrain and two major transportation routes.
