Ivanhoé, Manulife unveil Montreal’s $220M Maison Manuvie
Ivanhoé Cambridge and insurance and investment firm Manulife have joined forces to open Maison Manuvie, a new 27-storey office building in downtown Montreal that serves as Manulife’s Quebec headquarters. The $220 million class AAA building at 900 de Maisonneuve Boulevard West is 83 per cent leased at opening with major tenant Manulife occupying more than 260,000 square feet of office space on 11 floors. EY and Boralex are the other major tenants.

Global commercial real estate investors are shifting their focus toward secondary cities as property prices have soared in larger centres. “The share of transaction volumes happening in the larger cities has been diminishing around the world for the last year or two. “ said David Green-Mason, managing director, Asia Pacific for Real Capital Analytics, a global leader in the analysis of real estate transactions.
TOBY winner profile: Barrington Place in Halifax
Halifax’s Barrington Place might not be the biggest or newest building in Canada, but as the winner of this year’s Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Canada TOBY Award in the mixed-use category, it’s one of the best. The five-storey building at 1903 Barrington St. was built in 1980 and includes 19,173 square feet of office space, 32,985 square feet of retail space and 138,556 square feet of hotel space.

Six months ago: Big deals propel Calgary CRE activity higher
Commercial real estate activity in Calgary, driven by the office market, was up in the first quarter of 2017. A report from Altus Group’s Data Solutions showed the number of deals increased by 32 per cent over the previous three-month period and the dollar value edged over the $1-billion mark for the second time in two years.
One year ago: Humaniti first-of-its-kind, mixed-use development
Cogir and the Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ are teaming up to develop a more than $200 million mixed-use project in downtown Montreal they hope will attract a wide cross-section of the city’s humanity. Dubbed Humaniti, the project will combine a hotel, office space, commercial space, rental apartments and condominiums.
